Wyvern’s orthopaedic services continue to grow, coordinated medical care is increasingly important in supporting patients before, during and after surgery.

Consultant Physician and Geriatrician Dr Rachael Oliver-Redgate has joined Wyvern’s multidisciplinary team, bringing expertise in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and Perioperative Medicine. A Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), she has particular interests in perioperative care, dementia, rehabilitation and the management of medically complex older patients.

Supporting patients through the surgical journey

Dr Oliver-Redgate works alongside surgeons to optimise patients at each stage of care:

  • Before surgery, she undertakes comprehensive preoperative assessments to identify medical, functional and cognitive risks that may influence recovery.

  • After surgery, she supports early recognition of complications, including delirium and functional decline.

Local experience and specialist expertise

Dr Oliver-Redgate trained at Royal North Shore, Mona Vale and Manly Hospitals and has worked in orthogeriatrics on the Northern Beaches since 2018. This experience gives her a strong understanding of the local patient population, including active older adults undergoing elective joint replacement, patients presenting with fragility fractures, and those with more complex medical conditions.

Working closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, nursing staff and allied health teams, Dr Oliver-Redgate provides coordinated, patient-centred care that helps optimise recovery and support smooth transitions back into the community.

Her appointment further strengthens Wyvern's multidisciplinary approach, providing additional support for surgeons managing increasingly complex patients and reinforcing the hospital's commitment to delivering outstanding orthopaedic care.
