MEET DR RACHAEL OLIVER-REDGATE
Supporting better outcomes for older orthopaedic patients
As Wyvern's orthopaedic services continue to grow, so too does the need for coordinated medical care that supports patients before, during and after surgery.
Consultant Physician and Geriatrician Dr Rachael Oliver-Redgate has joined Wyvern's multidisciplinary team, bringing expertise in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and Perioperative Medicine. A Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), she has particular interests in perioperative care, dementia, rehabilitation and the management of medically complex older patients.
Dr Oliver-Redgate works alongside surgeons to optimise patients throughout their surgical journey. Her involvement begins with comprehensive preoperative assessment, identifying medical, functional and cognitive risks that may influence recovery. Following surgery, she focuses on early recognition of complications, including delirium and functional decline, while supporting timely mobilisation, rehabilitation and discharge planning.
Having trained at Royal North Shore, Mona Vale and Manly Hospitals, and working in Orthogeriatrics on the Northern Beaches since 2018, Dr Oliver-Redgate has extensive experience caring for the local patient population. She understands the needs of active older adults undergoing elective joint replacement, as well as patients presenting with fragility fractures and more complex medical conditions.
Working closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, nursing staff and allied health teams, Dr Oliver-Redgate provides coordinated, patient-centred care that helps optimise recovery and supports smooth transitions back into the community.
Her appointment further strengthens Wyvern's multidisciplinary approach, providing additional support for surgeons managing increasingly complex patients and reinforcing the hospital's commitment to delivering outstanding orthopaedic care.
