Your Safety

  • Medications

We ask you to bring your regular medications in their original packaging when you come to the hospital and hand them to your nurse when you arrive.

For your protection and peace of mind, we'll keep most medications securely stored in a special locked drawer in your room. Only our nursing staff will have access to this drawer. This is how we ensure your safety and is necessary to comply with NSW legal requirements.

We're pleased to offer all our patients a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service. If you have any questions or concerns about your medications during your stay, please don't hesitate to speak to your ward pharmacist.

  • Infection Control

Good hand hygiene helps protect everyone – patients, visitors, and staff – from infections. We've placed hand wash basins and alcohol hand-gel dispensers throughout the hospital.

We encourage you and your visitors to make use of these hand hygiene options. We appreciate your help in keeping our hospital community healthy.

Download our Hand Hygiene Flyer to learn more.

If you or your family are noticing any changes in your health, you can reach out for help at any time. Our staff are trained to help and notice any changes, but you can assist by letting them know if you do not feel well, are worried, feel your condition has suddenly changed or that something has been missed and any other concerns.

Our staff will assist in any way possible and contact your doctor as required. The R.E.A.C.H. model is a way of supporting you during your stay, a staff member will explain the poster in your room.

ABOUT DELIRIUM CARE

Delirium involves a change in mental state that can be triggered by illness, surgery, injuries or medications. Symptoms may come on rapidly, and while they typically last only a few days, they can sometimes persist longer. While delirium occurs more frequently in older individuals, it can happen at any age.

While delirium can potentially affect any patient, we take extra care to identify those at higher risk so we can provide appropriate support. Patients aged 65 and over, as well as those aged 45 and over who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, have an increased risk. We also closely monitor patients who have previously experienced delirium or have cognitive impairment.

Our staff are trained to recognise the signs of delirium and take steps to prevent and manage it. We understand this can be an unsettling experience, and we're here to support patients and their loved ones through it.
