Ian is a highly experienced Ophthalmologist, and is enthusiastic to share this experience by his availability for urgent Ophthalmological consultations, done on any day. His Mobile number for assistance is: 0408 83 99 26.

At Sydney University, he was awarded the Claffy Ophthalmology Prize in Medicine V. Ian has authored over 335 publications in the international literature.

Ian has two major research and consultative interests. Firstly, he manages Macular Degeneration, in which he is currently studying the complications of intravitreal injections. Secondly, he manages all aspects of Neuro-ophthalmology, and especially cares for patients with Temporal Arteritis, for which he has developed not only new diagnostic techniques, but also new surgical approaches for Temporal Artery Biopsy.

In 2007, he was awarded a PhD entitled ‘The Watery Eye’. In 2024, he completed research for his DSc, and it is currently under international review. It is entitled ‘Cataracts in Medicine for 2020: Translation of aetiology, associations, and management into surgical and visual outcomes.’ The DSc shows that, from his surgical results, at least 92% of all patients who undergo cataract surgery should be able to achieve visual acuity of 6/4 by one month postoperatively.

Ian chairs the second-weekly Saturday morning Sydney Ophthalmology Writers Group (WG) at his Rooms in Chatswood, Sydney, sharing Ophthalmological and Medical input with WG members, who are undergraduates in Medicine, or newer graduates, with collaboration from attending senior colleagues in all branches of Ophthalmology and Medicine. WG aims to help teach potential Ophthalmology trainees some Ophthalmology, and to gain publications for them in order to assist in RANZCO training selection..
