David Carmody performs foot, ankle and knee surgery including arthroscopic procedures, instability surgery and fracture management.
Dr David Carmody completed his medical degree at Sydney University in 1996, and passed his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2006. He was selected for further subspecialty Fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery in Bristol, UK with Mr Ian Winson, President of the European Foot and Ankle Society, and a world leader in arthroscopic surgery of the Foot and Ankle.
Dr Carmody did knee fellowships in Belgium with Dr Johan Bellemans and Dr Jan Victor, and in Lyon with Professor Phillippe Neyret. He has published research in numerous journals on knee surgery and continues to be involved in the North Sydney Orthopaedic Research Group, publishing regularly on knee replacements in particular. His expertise covers management of arthritis and knee replacements, reconstructions and arthroscopies.
Dr Carmody’s main interest is sports injuries of the foot and ankle. His fellowship training had an emphasis on foot and ankle surgery in the athlete. His particular expertise is in arthroscopic procedures, and surgery for instability, tendon conditions and cartilage problems, including arthritis. He also specialises in fracture management of the foot and ankle. Dr Carmody is a member of the North Sydney Orthopaedic Research Group and is undertaking ongoing research into surgical procedures of the foot and ankle. He is a member of the Australian Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.
He has published research in numerous peer-reviewed journals, and had papers presented at meetings throughout Australia and abroad. His research into spinal cord injuries in Australian footballers was rewarded with the “Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Applied Research in Sports medicine by a Research team” at the 2005 NSW Sports Safety Scheme Awards.
Dr Carmody has a keen interest in many sports. He follows all the football codes, and continues to play cricket, soccer and golf.
